EventsWhile many transboundary water dialogues tend to focus on basin scales, regional dialogues can provide a unique approach allowing stakeholders to focus on common benefits and/or challenges in water management beyond specific basin as a starting point. Multi-stakeholder regional dialogue is an approach that can enable transboundary water cooperation to advance, yet limited literature and knowledge materials exist that fully examines its effectiveness. Recently published by GWP, the publication “Multi-stakeholder regional dialogues: Pathways for advancing transboundary water cooperation” aims to unfold how multi-stakeholder regional dialogues can advance transboundary water cooperation. Highlights from the publication have been summarized in a brief.
Jointly hosted by GWP and IW:Learn, the session focuses on the findings of the publication and encourages exchange of experience among those practitioners directly involved in each of regional case studies. It aims to dive deeper into the potential of regional MSDs to advance transboundary cooperation and explore practical challenges throughout inception and implementation stages.
The speakers will present the evolution and results of regional dialogues fostered in the Southern and Eastern Europe, Southern Africa, and South Asia regions. Potential for spin-off action and replication of successful dialogue format will be presented from Central America.
The presentations will focus on how regional multi-stakeholder dialogues facilitates advancement of transboundary water cooperation in different ways including: initiation or advancement of basin level cooperation or dialogues; adoption of regional frameworks in advancing cooperation.
