There are strong linkages between gender equalityand access to water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH).When gender equality and women and girls’ empowerment are taken into consideration in policies andprogrammes, women will have more time to earnan income, girls are more likely to attend school,and family health and hygiene improves. Access toclean WASH is crucial for poverty reduction and forachieving gender equality and empowering womenand girls. This guide gives a brief overview on whyand how to consider gender equality in WASH policies, strategies and programmes.
