For over a 15 years IRC has been working on the challenges of providing water, sanitation and hygiene services that last. Here we're bringing together the tools and guidance we've developed with our partners in some 20 countries around the world. A few of the tools can be used 'off the shelf'; most provide a useful model or starting point for more tailored solutions. Our work is on-going and the collection is being continually updated and refined.

The U.S. Drought Monitor (USDM) is a map released every Thursday, showing where drought is and how bad it is across the U.S. and its territories. The map uses six classifications: normal conditions, abnormally dry (D0), showing areas that may be going into or are coming out of drought, and four levels of drought: moderate (D1), severe (D2), extreme (D3) and exceptional (D4).An associated product—the North American Drought Monitor—comes out monthly, reflecting drought conditions across the entire continent.

The National Ecosystems Approach Toolkit (NEAT) Tree provides you with tools and experience to build this relationship with nature into your decisions in a transparent, participatory and evidence-driven way. Not only will these lead to better outcomes, it will allow you to demonstrate that the principles of the Ecosystem Approach have been built into your work.

The practice provides support when integrating the Ecosystem Approach in maritime planning. As a holistic approach with a focus on preserving/restoring marine ecosystems and maintaining ecosystem services to support human needs it should provide spatial solutions for the management of human activities in a way that is compatible with the achievement of good environmental status (GES) and the capacity of marine ecosystems to respond to human-induced changes.

The Water Safety Portal is a toolbox for the Water Safety Planning approach and is jointly sponsored by IWA and WHO. Water Safety Portal aims to contribute to improving and maintaining the safety of drinking water supplies through the effective implementation of WSPs, a catchment to consumer risk assessment and management approach advocated for by IWA and WHO as the most effective means of consistently ensuring the safety of a drinking water supply.
